The St. Nicholas Ball
TIC established the tradition of having a special end-of-the-year event in the Triangle area in order to better present its yearly goals and achievements, and to better engage the local community. It’s a black tie optional dinner in the evening called “St. Nicholas Ball.” The Keynote Speaker this year is Rocco Buttiglione. He will talk on “John Paull II’ Book Smuggling and Other Stories.”

Keynote Speaker: Rocco Buttiglione
Rocco Buttiglione is an Italian philosopher and politician. He is professor of political science at Saint Pius V University in Rome.
He has been member of the Pontifical Academy of Social Sciences since 1994. In the same year he was elected for the first time in the Italian Parliament. Since then he has held several positions of responsibility in both the Italian institutions and the European ones. He served as Vice President of the House of Representatives, as a Minister for EU policies, and as Minister for Cultural Assets and Activities. His case at the European Parliament is still unprecedented in Europe. In fact, his appointment to the European government in 2004 was withdrawn after he claimed to believe what is written in the Catechism of the Catholic Church with regard to homosexuality.
He is the author of an intellectual biography of John Paul II, entitled “Karol Wojtyla,” which he wrote working on the Pope’s original writings in Polish.
