After graduating from St. Basil High School in 1956, Jim Boyle spent the next two years in the US Navy.  In 1958 he enrolled at Penn Technical Institute, Pittsburgh, PA graduating with an Associate Degree as an Electronic Technician in 1960.

He joined IBM in 1960 as a Programmer. He worked in Product Development and helped start the Services Business in 1986.  He retired from IBM after 36 years as Vice President of Network Product Development.   During this time he managed an organization of over 1000 people with an annual budget of over $150M, and was responsible for the development of numerous, successful IBM Products during his career.

In 1975 he served as Financial Chair for expanding St. Michael Church in Cary.  In 1977 he served as Financial Chair for building a new church, St. Thomas More, in Austin, Texas. In 1982 he served as Financial Chair for building a new church, St. Andrew, in Apex, NC.  From 1991 to 2000 he served as the Board Chair for Cardinal Gibbons Catholic High School in Raleigh, NC.  In 1991 the school building was 50 years old, had 200 students, and could not pay the monthly bills.  Ten years later there was a new $17M school building, had 1000 students, and the operating budget was producing an annual surplus.   Currently he serves on a School Board for two Catholic Elementary Schools, and also serves as Vice President on the Board for a condominium association in Myrtle Beach.
